The Beauty of Plitvice Lakes

The world filled with many beautiful places. That’s why I never get bored to presenting travel topic as my biggest interest among another topic. From this hub I want to take you tour in Croatia. Croatia is a country in Central Europe and Southeastern Europe, at the crossroads of the Pannonian Plain, the Balkans, and the Adriatic Sea. This country has a beautiful place. From many forums, I found that many people suggested this place as one of the most beautiful place in Croatia.

I’ll take you in special tour. We will go to Plitvice lakes. Have you ever heard about this lake? Actually Plitvice lakes itself is a national park. This national park is located roughly halfway between capital city Zagreb and Zadar on the coast (situated at 44°51N 15°37E, 44.85°N 15.62°E). Plitvice lake is the largest national park among the eight national parks in Croatia and the oldest national park in Southeast Europe. Plitvice lakes National Park is ranging at an altitude from 367 meters (the lowest point) up to 1279 meters (the highest point) above sea level. So, there’s also quite an altitude difference. Plitvice lakes covers 296.85 square kilometer with breathtaking natural splendor.

If you want to see the real heaven, you must come to this lake. The Plitvice Lakes National Park as the most popular tourist attraction in Croatia and it was granted as UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979 among the first natural sites worldwide. This national park is also home to deer, bears, wolves, boars and rare bird species or more than 4,000 inhabitants.

Today, this lake provides inspiration for visitors becoming as one of Croatia's biggest attractions. Thousands of people from all over the world visit the Plitvice lakes during summer. From this wonderful lake we can see collection of waterfalls, gallery of lakes, forest and diversity of animal life. There are amazing colors and it always change ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. This could be happened because of depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water, even the angle of sunlight has a big role in creating such of beautiful colors. The sixteen lakes are formed by natural dams of travertine divided by an upper lakes and lower lakes. The upper lakes like: Prošćansko jezero, Ciginovac, Batinovac, Veliko jezero, Malo jezero, Vir, Galovac, Milinovo jezero, Gradinsko jezero, Buk, Kozjak. The lower lakes like: Milanovac, Gavanovac, Kaluđerovac, Novakovića brod. Another attraction comes from two waterfalls. They are Veliki slap (Large Waterfall) with height about 78 metres and Galovački buk (Galovac Waterfall) with height about 25 meters. The highest waterfalls are the Large Waterfall which is located at the end of the lower lakes.

There are several activities we can do at this place. Hiking is a common activity with organized programs for park visitors, because about eight km of pathways and wooden walking trails around lakes are accessible to visitors. This is amazing experience located in an altitude of 636m to 503m above sea level. Other possible activities include: skiing, rowing, cycling, train ride and electric boat. They come to this national park to find peace and relaxation just to experience something different than in the city. But walking is suggested for the visitors to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and admiring the series of waterfalls, lakes, nature and wildlife. With various lengths that can be undertaken starting from entrance and it needed about 8 hour sightseeing walk.

Wow……awesome. This lake is good for almost all seasons, isn't just for summer. But the tourist can visit any time of year. Winter is became an amazing moment to see in the snow. There are two entrances in this location. They are entrance 1 and entrance 2, but the entrance 2 closes during winter.

The Plitvice Lakes National Park is open daily. Longer opening hours happened in summer (7am to 8pm). Just prepare the money for the entrance fee. From trusted information, it said that for adults about 80 Kunas ($15.50/£9.50/€11) in November to March and 110 Kunas (/$21/£13/€15) during April to October. There’s discount ticket for a group of 15 or more people with guided tours ready in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Croatian as well. If we want to stay a little bit longer, we can use several facilities like: three hotels (near with the entrance 2), campsite, bungalows or space for 500 camping units (located about 7km from entrance 1). Just for information "Kunas" is the currency of Croatia.Because of the water, lakes, waterfall and forest in everywhere so the Plitvice lakes are definitely a must-see!
