The Illusion Swimming Pool by Leandro Erlich
78What is the best activity on a hot day? Swimming is the best answer. We try to make our body stay cool by soaking in the water. Wow….it’s so relaxing. I think many of us love swimming. This is one of the enjoyable sports we can do with our family. In addition as a fun activity, swimming is also making our bodies healthy. This is one reason why we love swimming. It's been a long time I never write about art. This time I’ll write something amazing related with art. Again….. I hope you don’t get bored with this information.
This is a special swimming pool. You don’t have to be worry, if you can’t swim. Your body wouldn't be wet and you don’t need any swimsuit. You don’t need an ability to swim. Promise me, this swimming pool totally unique and we never imagine about this before. From the outer appearance, this pool is like a real swimming pool. The first time I saw the picture, makes me think deeper about this creation.
This swimming pool has a full-size and it has good construction. This pool also equipped with all its trappings, including a deck and a ladder. When we seen from the deck, the pool look appears to be filled with deep water. We can also see the shimmering water. Wow…..it’s so amazing and beautiful. From the pictures below, I think we have a question. Why do the people under the water still wearing complete clothes, even they brought a bag or hat? Is there a mystery behind this pool? Please continue to read….
New York, PS1 Art Center
Leandro Erlich, a man behind this project.
Actually this is really artwork. So, if we enter and swim in this pool our body wouldn’t wet at all. Because this is a fake swimming pool which was constructed by Leandro Erlich. Who is he? He is an Argentinian artist who also well known for an art installations. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1973. He has his own style and all his work seem to defy the basic laws of physics and befuddle the viewer. Personally, I have the same feeling with this. From trusted information, he uses various building materials. Such as: mirrors and projections. He uses this stuff to create forms of reality. From his artwork, he tried to invite all the senses and our participation within the spaces he created. This was like psychological illusions which come from South America.
Japan, 21st Century Art Museum
This pool is one of the Erlich masterpieces. This is like a big aquamarine with 10 centimeters transparent glass. From the picture we can see a layer of water is suspended over transparent glass. Under the fake water, there’s an empty space where viewers can enter. From this room all the secret finally revealed. They can looking up above and enjoy the interior of the pool here. Elrich try to send a message that there are different perspectives and perceptions of self and others all come to intersect. Other trusted information said that “fake swimming pool” were installed at the PS1 Art Center in New York and and the 21st Century Art Museum in Kanazawa, Japan.
Please enjoy another Elrich artwork
