Roraima, The Largest Flat Mountain. Unbelievable, Check It Out!
90This time I’ll take you tour in the highest place. If I talk about the highest place maybe some of us have a phobia with this. But I don’t want to scary you. But I’ll show the beautiful place in the world. Again…. Yes, I like travel topic. This is one of the beautiful things from the highest place. I’ll talk about Roraima Mountain. Mount Roraima is one of the top of the stones of the mountains Pakaraima. The location of the peak of this Stone Mountain is in a triple point of the border between Venezuela, Guyana, and Brazil. This is the largest Stone Mountain I‘ve ever seen. Why I said so, because Roraima has wide about 31 square kilometers and with a peak at 2,810 meters (8986 feet). It makes this mountain like a large stone table and flat in the sky. Wow… this is so beautiful. Natural wonder never disappointed us. Roraima Mount was discovered by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1596. He was a British explorer who searched the dense forest in Venezuela. Because rains almost every day of the year. There’s not much vegetation can be seen at the top of this mountain. But we can seen pitcher plants, Campanula (a bellflower), and the rare Rapate heather, even a few bushes. Much more dominated by dusty plains and slightly muddy areas because of the rain.
Roraima Mount became inspiration for creative people
Roraima Mount was inspired Arthur Conan Doyle's in creating a book about people and dinosaurs. The title of this book is “The Lost World”, published in 1912. Now it was made into countless films.
The Real Lost World team was the first scientific team who tried to explore the caves of Roraima Mount in 2006. The good news is they found carrot formation growing in this cave. Again… this mountain also inspired Disney by the Pixar animated movie. I heard that the Pixar production team also climbing this mountain to get inspiration.
Mount Roraima became famous in 1912 when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote a fictional novel titled The Lost World. He climbed the Roraima Mount to conduct exploration in doing research about prehistoric plant and Dinosaurs species are believed to live in an isolated and unchanged for millions of years at the top of the mountain.
Conan-Doyle was inspired by British botanist Everard Im Thurn on December 18, 1884 with Harry Perkins, they are the first person who reach the top of Mount Roraima. Im Thurn and Perkins wasn’t the first European to see Mount Roraima, the first Europeans who saw this mountain was a German explorer. His name was Robert Schomburgk.
Im Thurn and Perkins climbed Mount Roraima from the southeast, now we called this Im Thurn route, the only one of the easiest ways to reach the top. Im Thurn in his expedition had to struggle through a distance of hundreds of kilometers of rivers and also through the wild forests and wild animals which is really dangerous.
But today, Roraima Mount is a destination for backpackers. They can hire a Pemon Indian guide in the village of Paraitepui. Paraitepui itself can be reached easily by four wheel drive vehicle. From Paraitepui it took one day to reach the base of the mountain. About two days are typically needed for the return, and many backpackers spend one day and night on top of the mountain. So if I calculated this trip, we need five days in total. But don’t worry if don’t want to get a risk during the trip as a hikers, there’s another option. We can hire helicopter, with extra cost I thought. Helicopter tour is one of good choice. It’s also available from the nearby Venezuelan city of Santa Elena de Uairén.
The Venezuelan government advises tourists who want to reach the peak, using a path of stone steps that had been made through the sides of the mountain. Unfortunately, sometimes there are some climbers who tried to reach the peak with a extreme way to climb the sides of this mountain. This method is not recommended because this area has a high rainfall. The water will damage the soil, rocks, and small trees that could endanger the climber.
But don’t worry with the scenery, because this natural wonder is completely beautiful, and fully inspiring. Mount Roraima, bordered by three different countries like: Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana. That’s why made this mount different. Roraima promise great experienced of climbers and for us who liked hiking. Because there is a hiking path up the mountain’s natural ramp-like path. Usually we need two-day hike.
Just for information, the highest waterfall in the world, St. Angel, located in the region of Pakaraima Mountains. Tropical rain forest could easily be found around the mountain. If you have plans to backpack abroad, Venezuela became good option for you to challenge your adventurous instincts. Nothing wrong with you bought a ball to play at its peak, because several football fields can be built on top of the world's flat mountain. Sorry, just kidding. From the pictures we can see how beautiful the scenery below the mountain. Roraima Mount is like floating above the cloud. The cloud made this mount looks beautiful and mysterious.
Oh...Thanks God, I am glad have a chance to write this mountain though I never
come to this place in person. My tears would never stop to express my
feeling in seeing how beautiful natural wonders in the world. I hope we enjoy this information.

The Most Extreme Place for Settlements
I think we don’t imagine have a house in the extreme place. Why it called extreme, because all these houses located in the unusual place. Most of those houses located above the cliff, like without borders.

Great hub. I learned something. I always thought that Edger Rice Burrows wrote "The Lost World." I'm happy you straighten me out on that. Also, I just happen to mentio this in a comment on another hub but it is even more relative to this hub. Larry Niven wrote a novel that was set on a planet where the only living area was on a the flat top of a montain. That top was the size of California, but it sure sounds like he got the idea for this place.
Gorgeous photos and amazing and unique info. Thanks.
Wow! Prasetio! That looks like it was man made, almost. 8986 feet high! 31 square kilometers! That's close to 20 square miles. It is taller than Mount Mitchell in my North Carolina at near 6,000 ft. Amazing! Thank you again dear nephew!
